Cemetery Grounds Policies

To honor those we have loved and to provide beauty and safety, we ask everyone to respectfully follow these guidelines:

• Flowers and decorations on the ground are allowed from May 1 to June 15 if kept as close as possible to the Monument to allow for mowing and trimming during this time. All flowers and decorations on the ground and not located on the Monument must be removed June 15.

• During the growing season, except for the May 1 to June 15 period, all items impeding mowing or trimming will be removed. All decorations, no matter where they are located, must be removed by September 10 to allow for fall cleanup.

• Shepherd staff or plant stands are not allowed unless they are part of the Monument and do not interfere with mowing or trimming.

• Decorations are allowed on the Monument but not on a flat Marker due to the obstructions they cause for mowing. The Cemetery reserves the right to trim or remove all floral designs, flowers, shrubs, or trees from the Cemetery as soon as they become unsightly, dangerous, and/or diseased. The general care assumed by the Cemetery shall in no case mean maintenance, repair, or replacement of any vase, basket, memorial, flowers, plants, or other objects placed upon a grave.

• Oak Grove Cemetery Association is not responsible for items placed on a grave. 

• All flowers, decorations, or other items located on a Monument must be removed by September 10. 

• Between November 1 and April 1, decorations are allowed for a maximum 14-day period. 

• Planting trees, flowers, shrubs or any other vegetation on cemetery grounds is prohibited. Likewise, no other objects shall be imbedded in the ground as they interfere with mowing and trimming.  

• Pets are allowed but must be on a leash. Please clean up after your pet. 

• Please use trash bins for disposal of flowers and old decorations and do not put pet waste bags in the trash bins.

Interment & Inurnment Policies

• All casket burials (interments) and cremation burials (inurnments) need to be approved and properly recorded with the Oak Grove Cemetery Association keeper of records. 

• It is the responsibility of the funeral home, or for the inurnment family, to notify the cemetery of a burial. 

• The cemetery requires the name, date of birth, date of death, section, lot, and grave number and the date and time of the burial. If the section, lot and grave information is not available, the cemetery will assist in locating this information.

• A cemetery representative will locate and mark the grave before the burial. 

• Casket burials require a cement vault. 

• Cremains must be in a durable container.

• Because seed maturing depends on weather and moisture, families are encouraged to assist by watering, fertilizing, and controlling weeds.

Monument & Marker Policies

• No Monument or Marker shall be placed in the cemetery without approval of the Oak Grove Cemetery Association. 

• Oak Grove Cemetery will mark the location of a Monument or Marker for installation by a Monument company. The Cemetery should be notified by the Monument company as soon as the Monument or Marker is ordered. 

• When the Monument or Marker is to be installed, the Cemetery should be given a 7 day notice to allow for marking. 

• Monuments or Markers from the Veterans Administration or any Natural Stone Monuments from a Monument company are permitted. 

• If more than one Monument or Marker is being placed on a grave, only one locate fee will be assessed. 

• Monuments and Markers must have a minimum 4” mowing strip. The purchaser of a Monument or Marker is its owner and is responsible for the upkeep.

• If, after time, the site or Monument or Marker settles, the owner is responsible for correcting the settling.

• All non-Monument benches, concrete planters, or other permanent items require approval from the Oak Grove Cemetery Association.
