Cemetery Grounds Policies

• Grave sites are typically marked with Monuments and/or Flat Markers. For purposes of these policies, Monuments are permanent markers that stand above ground level. Flat Markers are permanent markers located flush with ground level. Any restrictions on decorating listed below are simply to assist in mowing and trimming the cemeteries expansive acreage.

• Beginning on May 1 of each year, flowers, wreaths and other temporary decorations may be placed on the Monuments themselves. All such decorations must be removed by September 10 to allow for fall cleanup. Any decorations not removed will be disposed of by the Cemetery.

• From May 1 until June 15 of each year, decorations may also be placed on the ground as close as possible to the Monument or on the Flat Marker. Any such decorations not removed by June 15 will be disposed of by the Cemetery.

• At no other time are decorations allowed on Flat Markers as they interfere with mowing and trimming.

• Shepherd hooks and plant stands may be placed on Monuments if they are permanently affixed to the Monument so as to become part of it. However, they should not be placed nor be of a design that interferes with mowing or trimming.

• Between November 1 and April 1 of each year, decorations may be placed on a grave site for up to 14 days. Any decorations not removed but April 1 will be disposed of by the Cemetery.

• Planting trees, flowers, shrubs, or any other plants is prohibited. Likewise, no other objects shall be imbedded in the ground as they interfere with mowing and trimming.

• Oak Grove Cemetery reserves the right to trim or remove all floral designs, flowers, shrubs, trees, or other plants if they become unsightly, dangerous, or diseased.

• Oak Grove Cemetery is not responsible for items placed on a grave and shall not have any duty to maintain, repair, or replace any such item.

• Pets are allowed but must be on a leash. Please clean up after your pet.

• Please use trash bins for disposal of flowers and decorations, but do not put pet waste in the trash bins.

Interment & Inurnment Policies

• All casket burials (interments) and cremation burials (inurnments) need to be approved and properly recorded with the Oak Grove Cemetery Association keeper of records. 

• It is the responsibility of the funeral home, or for the inurnment family, to notify the cemetery of a burial. 

• The cemetery requires the name, date of birth, date of death, section, lot, and grave number and the date and time of the burial. If the section, lot and grave information is not available, the cemetery will assist in locating this information.

• A cemetery representative will locate and mark the grave before the burial. 

• Casket burials require a cement vault. 

• Cremains must be in a durable container.

• Because seed maturing depends on weather and moisture, families are encouraged to assist by watering, fertilizing, and controlling weeds.

Monument & Flat Marker Policies

• No Monument or Flat Marker shall be placed in the cemetery without approval of the Oak Grove Cemetery Association. 

• Oak Grove Cemetery will mark the location of a Monument or Flat Marker for installation by a Monument company. The Cemetery should be notified by the Monument company as soon as the Monument or Flat Marker is ordered. 

• When the Monument or Flat Marker is to be installed, the Cemetery should be given a 7 day notice to allow for marking. 

• Monuments or Flat Markers from the Veterans Administration or any natural stone monuments from a monument company are permitted. 

• If more than one Monument or Flat Marker is being placed on a grave, only one locate fee will be assessed. 

• Monuments and Flat Markers must have a minimum 4” mowing strip. The purchaser of a Monument or Flat Marker is its owner and is responsible for the upkeep.

• If, after time, the site or Monument or Flat Marker settles, the owner is responsible for correcting the settling.

• All non-Monument benches, concrete planters, or other permanent items require approval from the Oak Grove Cemetery Association.
